Lotus advise revised recommended cam belt change interval for 340R and Exige and S1
We reproduce below the text of recent correspondence sent to owner Justin Pressland :
Dear Mr. Pressland,
The recommended cam belt replacement interval for the 340R, is now 4 years
or 36,000 miles (60,000 km), whichever first occurs. The reduced time
interval is in line with all K-series powertrain Elise and Rover products.

The implications for 340R owners are :
1. All 340R's (irrespective of date of registration) were
manufactured in February 2000.
2. Therefore all 340R's are now due a cam belt change.
3. Cam belt change means body off to do the job properly.
4. Add at least £250 for body off to the dealer's cost of replacing
the cam belt (Lotus Dealers quote 4 hours for body off and on)
5.As an example, the Lotus Service Department price for cam belt inc
body off is £476.00
plus £48.04
for the belt = £524.08 plus VAT. Labour charge rate is £70
per hour.
